PURPOSE: To precisely control a polymerization reaction of an ocular device such as contact lens, lens in eye, or blank to be lathed by a method wherein an assembly is subjected to heat before a material in a chamber is not substantially polymerized, after a material in a cavity is substantially polymerized. CONSTITUTION: A liquid molding material 76 is provided by mixing monomers with a photo-initiator and a thermal-initiator. The material 76 is activated by means of a light source 78 to cure the material 76. The photo-initiator of the material 76 is effective in the wavelength of the light source 78. As the material 76 is cured, it contracts or expands; however, lubricated cylindrical parts 26, 60 are caused to follow the contraction and expansion so that the material 76 between surfaces 48, 52 is brought into complete contact with a second mold segment 16 to precisely reproduce the surfaces 48, 52 of the material 76. |
