A building structural unit or module for low-rise buildings has a central, vertical, load-bearing, hollow steel column (10) the bottom of which in one form has a base plate (11) for fixing to a pre-formed concrete base pad (12); the top of the column has an internal circumferential flange (22) with bolt holes for attachment of steel roof truss top chords (17, 18) and in one form the complete roof structure (13) consisting of trusses (14, 16, 17, 19, 24 and 15, 16a, 18, 20, 25) are connected to top truss chord ring (26, 27) and bottom chord flange (23), and the roofing (21) and lifted by a crane on to the top of column (10) and rings (22, 26) are bolted together through bolt holes (30, 31), and the column has vertical radial cleats between roof and ground level for fixing of floor beams (35, 36), the outer ends of which are suspended from near the outer ends of the roof trusses by steel rods (43, 44) which continue (39, 40) to buried earth anchors (41, 42) which maintain the column (10) in a vertical position under wind-load conditions and stabilise the whole structure. |
