PURPOSE:To offer a catalyst which is brought into contact with a nitrogen oxide-contg. exhaust gas, decomposes nitrogen oxides in the exhaust gas into nitrogen and oxygen, and is characterized in that it has higher activity, improved SOX resistance, improved heat resistance, and small amt. of metal support and simplifies the process of preparing the catalyst. CONSTITUTION:The catalyst for catalytic decomposition of nitrogen oxide is such a catalyst that is brought into contact with a nitrogen oxide-contg. exhaust gas, decomposes nitrogen oxides in the exhaust gas into nitrogen and oxygen, and consists of a palladium element and high-purity superfine powder of single crystal magnesium oxide having 5-170m<2>/g BET specific surface area (0.01-0.2mum specific surface area diameter). |
