The barrel (1) is drained and refilled through a tube (6) coupled to a T-joint (7) having a third port (12) to which the gauge (8) is connected by a bend (15) and stopcock (18). An inner tube (14) for return flow extends through the horizontal portion of the joint (7) from a central bore in a brass disc (13), into the barrel (1) at least as far as its outlet (11). The upstanding tube is surrounded and protected by a transparent elastic sleeve (17) of synthetic material. ADVANTAGE - Simple device indicates liq. level accurately in all circumstances, esp. during filling and emptying.
