INTERACTIVE SEQUENCING METHOD FOR ETC SYSTEMS

An interactive sequencing method for reducing erros and enabling editing of consumer transactions in a host based system (10) having a plurality of remote terminals is disclosed. Some consumer transactions may be performed off-line at a remote terminal (14) and stored (14) and stored (24) for eventual transmission to the host (12), while others need to be performed on-line requiring immediate communication with a host (12). Specifically, off-line transactions are transmitted from the remote terminal (14) to the host (12) during the time period in which the remote terminal (14) is awaiting host authorization to transmit an on-line transaction to the host. Additionally, a balancing procedure is performed during which host transaction data is reconsiled with terminal transaction data. By comparing transaction data relating to the number of transactions in a batch, the monetary value of such transactions, and the number of transactions transmitted before a close transaction during the same communication call, errors can be detected and corrected.
