PURPOSE:To attain a circuit configuration with a small scale by inserting a polling signal to a main signal so as to allow an optional terminal station equipment to monitor and control the operation of other terminal station equipment and a repeater. CONSTITUTION:A terminal station equipment 300 at the opposite side to that of a station A1 in two sets of terminal station equipments 300 of back-to-back connection monitors and controls control information relating to the operation of the terminal station equipment 300 of, e.g., a station An connected via an optical transmission line through the polling from a station Ai and the control information is stored in a memory or the like in a control section 170. Upon the receipt of a polling signal from the control section 170 of one terminal station equipment 300 of the station Ai via a 3rd input output terminal 150 and a selection section 120, the control section 170 of the other terminal station equipment 300 of the station Ai reads the control information stored in the control section 170 and transfers a reply signal to the control section 170 of the station A. via a station A2.
