Filter press membrane unit comprises three clamped frames in polypropylene, between which are sandwiched two supple impermeable cloths upon which are fixed spacer bars of circular spacer bars and the clamped frames. Each membrane unit is covered by filter cloths. During filtration a cake builds up on the surface, the filtrate passing between the spacer bar and exiting via channels.
