A locking device (10) for outboard motors (1) comprising a lock case (8) having a lockable and releasable lock cylinder (13), a bolt casing (19) fixedly attached to the lock case (8) and a clamping bolt (4) in threading engagement with a hole in the stern bracket (2) of the motor in order to attach the motor (1) to the stern (3) of a boat. When the locking device (10) is mounted, the head (16) of the bolt (4) is completely enclosed by the lock case (8) and the lock cylinder (13), the other end (24) of the bolt is caused to engage the stern (3) and the bolt intermediate portion (5) is protected by the bolt casing (19) against manipulation from outside.
