A flow mapping device capable of obtaining a two- or three-dimensional flow velocity distribution map with a high S/N. Echo signals of sound lines per transmission of ultrasonic wave are simultaneously received. Then, Doppler signals are extracted from plural sample volumes so set on the respective sound lines as to be adjacent to each other. According to the cross-correlation between the Doppler signals, flow velocity components in the direction of the sound lines and in the direction perpendicular to the sound lines, are obtained. While an ultrasonic wave beam is scanned in succession, such a process is repeated, and the two- or three-dimensional flow velocity distribution map relative to the predetermined region of a subjective body is obtained. |
