A left ventricular assist device powered by skeletal muscle, without any form of transcutaneous energy delivery, which comprises a housing (1), containing an outlet valve (4) and an Archimedes Screw (5). The ventricular assist device is powered by the contraction of skeletal muscle, the energy being transferred through a gear box (Figure 3), incorporating an attachment for the muscle tendon (10) and a series of gearwheels (13, 14).
