There is disclosed a novel thiazolidinedione derivative of the general formula (I): wherein R<1> and R<2> are the same or different and are a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group, or a salt thereof. The thiazolidinedione derivative has hypoglycemic activity and hypolipidemic activity.
