An earth connection in electronic ballasts for lights or the like is ensured in that a separate earthing device (7; 17) is mounted, preferably soldered, in the printed-circuit board (2), to be precise in the region of an opening through which a lug (6) projects which is connected to the base part (1) of the ballast. Contact elements such as contact tongues (9, 10) or a slot (19) which achieves compression achieve a secure connection of the earthing device (7; 17) and the lug (6) when the printed-circuit board (2) and base part (1) are assembled, without any additional assembly steps being required.
