867,569. Moulding pipe ends. RESISTOFLEX CORPORATION. Feb. 26, 1960 [March 9, 1959], No. 6885/60. Class 87(2). A method of flanging a laminated pipe consisting of a layer of cured thermosetting resin and an inner layer of polytetrafluoroethylene comprises beating the end of the pipe until the thermosetting resin begins to break down and deteriorate, outwardly flaring the end of the pipe to mould the layer of p.t.f.e. and reconstituting the thermosetting layer of the flared portion with a compatible resinous cement. The laminated pipe, a flange 16 and a back-up ring 22 are placed in a moulding tool having a heated member 50 and a split collar 18, 20, the collar 18, 20 is tightened to grip the pipe and the member 50 is advanced until it contacts the pipe and its heat begins to break down the outer layer of the pipe. Additional external heating may be applied. The member 50 is then further advanced to flair the pipe and mould it against the ring 22 and the member 50 and pipe are allowed to cool to mould the p.t.f.a. layer. A layer of resinous cement is then applied to the cracked outer layer and the pipe is clamped between the flange 16 and a flange 66 to set the cement and unite the pipe to the ring 22. Specification 840,602 is referred to. |
