958,923. Travelling-wave tubes. SIEMENS & HALSKE A.G. Nov. 9, 1962 [Nov. 10, 1961], No. 42362/62. Heading H1D. A travelling-wave tube has the slow-wave helix 2, Fig. 1, mounted within a hollow conductor 1 by progressively angularly staggered metallic supports 3. The angle between successive supports may be in the range of 30 to 120 degrees, but is preferably 45 or 60 degrees. The complete structure of helix, supports and hollow conductor may be made up from metal stampings 7 of the form shown in, and arranged sequentially according to, Figs. 4, 5 and 6. In modifications the supports 8, 9 of Figs. 4 and 6 are inclined to the radial direction or reinforced at their outer ends by gussets. The stampings may be provided with capacity loading projections extending towards the helical line. In one embodiment all the stampings are of the same form, Fig. 12, the stampings in each pair being mutually reversed and adjacent pairs displaced through 45, 60, 72 or 90 degrees. Some of the stampings may be of magnetic material to provide a periodic focusing system. |
