PURPOSE:To produce electrodes while preventing damage at handling of electrode material by a method wherein the liquid suspension of electrode material is filtered with filter material, the surface of electrode material is brought into contact with an ion exchange membrane and bonded by heating, then filter material is removed from the electrode material surface. CONSTITUTION:The process relates to the production of electrodes used in the process of producing alkali hydroxide by electrolyzing aqueous alkali chloride solution at a low voltage. A liquid suspension containing an electrode material such as electrode activating agent and fluorine-containing resin is filtered with filter material to form the layer of electrode material on the filter material. Both layers of electrode and filter materials are handled to cause the electrode material surface to come in contact with an ion-exchange membrane and bonded by heating on the ion-exchange surface. Then, filter material layer is removed, thereby firmly bonding an electrode having a required properties on the ion-exchange membrane. When the cation- exchange membrane in this method is used, caustic alkali is obtained with high concentration and high-current efficiency. |
