PURPOSE: To easily open and close a mold by providing a carrier means or the like for supporting a base supporting means for supporting a shell mold, a cover, and an upper shell mold member in open and closed positions with respect to the bottom shell mold member. CONSTITUTION: A spindle assembly or a base assembly includes a base frame 22 having four corner legs 24 joined by side frame members 26 to one another. A carrier 40 is joined to a cover 42 of the mold and the cover 42 closes and seals an open upper end 30b of the concave lower side shell mold member 30 during a rotational casting of the thermoplastic material. The thermoplastic casting material, e.g. polyvinyl chloride particles, is deposited on the heated casting surface of the concave lower shell mold member 30 by rotating the closed mold on a multiple axis support. This permits the thermoplastic casting material to be uniformly distributed across the heated casting surface so as to form a thin, solid shell article with a shape conforming to that of the casting surface by fusing. |
