METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR ENTERING INFORMATION INTO A COMPUTER SYSTEM FROM A SOURCE OTHER THAN A USER INTERFACE DEVICE, AND APPLICATIONS THEREOF A computer system that has a computer and a user input device, such as a keyboard. The keyboard has a command processor and output assembler. The keyboard can take commands from the computer through the command processor and generate given responses through the output assembler to the computer. The computer recognizes the given responses and replaces them with desired input from the computer. The keyboard may be replaced with other types of user input devices. Script, remote control and keystroke macro programs can employ the above method.
