PURPOSE:To effectively compress data by deciding whether it is to be registered in a dictionary or not while discriminating the successiveness of picture data. CONSTITUTION:A registration condition discrimination part 10 discriminates, concerning character substring (max. coincident character string + next one character), the successiveness with a serial character string and with the following character string (max. coincident character string + next one character). Namely, A registration part 8 registers the string in a dictionary part 7 when C1, split of the character string (picture data), equals 1 in a discrimination part 12. When C1 does not equal 1, a discrimination part 13 discriminates whether C2, split of the character string, equals 0 or not. The registration part 8 registers the data in the dictionary part 7 when C2 equals 0 and does not register the character string when C2 does not equal 0. When the above processings of the max. coincident character string have been completed, a character string input part 5 inputs the next character string and the above processings are repeated. Thus, unnecessary registration is reduced and data are effectively compressed. |
