The cover (20) is made of a very thin, very light porous sheet material having a means (21) consisting of a hole or slots for securing it to the handle of the cooking vessel; said material is permeable to very unsaturated steam (23) but impermeable to splashed liquid. It rests on the top of the vessel because the higher internal pressure is relieved at 23 through the porous section of said cover. It is applicable to cooking all kinds of food and offers a considerable energy saving, especially with food that generates foam or splashes of liquid, such food being difficult to cook with a conventional lid. <IMAGE>
