PURPOSE:To allow a ceramic material to self-diagnose stress produced in the material, to predict the rupture of the material and to enhance reliability. CONSTITUTION:When stress corresponding to <=90% of rupture stress is produced in a ceramic material under increased external load, the ceramic material contg. particles dispersed in the matrix gives an AE signal (sound signal), requires the relief of the external force or the exchange of the ceramic member and warns that the ceramic material is under severe service conditions. |
