PURPOSE: To design a flexible valve seating apparatus to provide droptight metal-to-metal valve seating when employed, for example, with rotary ball valves and butterfly valves. CONSTITUTION: A flexible seating apparatus for use in rotary valves comprises a flexible seat ring 50 attached to one of a valve body 22 and a closure member 32 in a cantilever fashion and positioned by a resilient member. The resilient member is held captive in a preformed channel in the flexible seat ring 50. Slotted holes 60 spaced radially along the flexible seat ring 50 and corresponding fasteners 62 permit axial adjustment and proper positioning of the flexible seat ring 50 upon assembly and initial closure of the closure member 32. The flexible seat ring 50 can be alternatively mounted on the other of the valve body 22 and the closure member 32.
