A covered elastic yarn, Fig. 5 (not shown), is formed by closely wrapping a first inelastic thermoplastic synthetic wrap yarn 26 in one direction about a core 25 made from a long chain synthetic polymer composed of at least 85% of a segmented polyurethane, closely wrapping a second inelastic thermoplastic synthetic wrap yarn 27 in an opposite direction about said first yarn, and treating the covered elastic yarn with heat to shrink and set the yarns 26, 27 and to embed the first yarn 26 in the core 25. The yarns 26, 27 are applied while the core 25 is elongated about 153% of its relaxed length. |
