The retaining device for a shaft (10) which is located at least partly inside a sleeve (20) and is capable of relative translational and rotational movement upon a common longitudinal axis (X), comprises a cam (30), a cam follower (40) with a feeler (400), an elastic member (50), securing means (60) and if required an element (70) by means of which these securing means may be made captive.
