The detector plate member (1) is provided around its periphery with signal damping devices (3,4,5). At either opposite end of the plate is a strip (3) of a visco-elastic material for damping vibrations particularly in the range five to twenty kilohertz. The strip is about 0.5 cm. thick and three cms. wide and extends across the top of the main body (10) and down the external flange faces (2). On the internal face of each flange a further strip (5) of damping material is provided. A further strip (4) of similar width and thickness, is arranged across the main body (10) of the detector plate, at either end, on its underside.
