摘要 Novel prepn. of polysilanes is effected by reacting one or more silanes of formula (I) SiaHbRc in an inert atmos. in presence of one or more cpds. (II) of Ti, Zr, Hf, V, U, Th, Rh or Pt. In (I) a = Z or more (pref. 2-10); b = 1 or more (pref. 1-22); b+c = (Za + Z), pref. with c = 0-21; and R = alkyl, aryl, albenyl, alkoxy, hydrogen, amino or (di)organoamino (pref. Me, Et, vinyl, n-Bu, cyclohexyl and/or phenyl). The following variants are also claimed: (i) stopping the reaction by means of a cpd. functioning as an electron pair donor so that liq. oligomers, soluble, fusible polymers, elastomeric polymers or insol., infusible, polymers can be obtd.: (ii) copolymerising (I) with monosilanes of ofrmula SiHdR4-d(d=1,2,3 or 4), with the mol. ratio (I): comonomer being 1-99:1; and (iii) adding a non-catalytic (or only slightly catalytic) organometallic complex so as to dose the resulting polysilane with the metal from the complex. USE/ADVANTAGE - A wide range os polysilanes can be obtd. which have the following claimed uses: (a) pre-ceramic polymers for prodn. of SiC opt. in fibre, composite or coating form; (b) photoresists, e.g. for microlithography; (c) photoinitiators; and (e) elec. conductive polymers. The prepn., which is opt. in a solvent, gives hishDP polysilanes in good space-time yields and is simpler than the Wurtz-Fittig reaction, the disproportionation of di- or oligo-silanes or the process of EP-31432
