The battery housing contains at least two batteries, (14,17) which are connected in series by contact rails (26,29,31,32,33). Each battery contact (27) is pressed against the adjacent contact rail (26,29,31,32,33) via a respective coil spring (22,25). The contact rails (26,31,33) lie between the battery contacts (27) and the coil springs (22,25) for reducing the transfer resistance. Pref. the contact rails (26,31,33) have rear hooks which locate behind the end winding of each coil spring (22,25) to provide a mechanical fixing between the coil spring (22...25) and the contact rail (26,31,33). ADVANTAGE - Reduced transfer resistance between battery contacts and current rails.
