The vehicle seat has longitudinal and cross guide rails. It is mounted on the longitudinal rails, and these in turn are movably mounted on the cross rails. The vehicle doors have sensors, which react to deformations. The vehicle seats carry pressure pistons, which are controlled via the sensors. Due to the cross rails, the pistons move the seats at right angles to the vehicle axis. When the door is deformed, the seat is moved into the vehicle centre, up to the next seat. The free space thereby created, can be filled by an airflank, which is located in the door lining, and is also controlled by the sensors.
