Extinguishing borehole fires by cannon - with charge firing pressure wave to separate the flame from its supply of crude oil

A pressure wave of high power-density strikes, from one side in the direction of the flame centre, the flame shooting out from the bore hole. The flame becomes separated from its energy supply and is carried away from the fire. Variants claimed include the pressure wave (4) being produced by a detonation from inside a pipe (3) directed at the centre of the flame (6); the detonation being produced by a charge (2) ignited in a cannon (1) whose muzzle is inside the pipe; the pipe (3) opening into a casing (5) which has has an opening (7) for the flame to leave; and in addn. to the pressure wave, spraying in the direction (8a) from firefighting vehicles through the opening (8). USE/ADVANTAGE - Conventional methods alone are not sufficient for extinguishing borehole fires; teh claimed method fills this need. The method is effective by separating the energy supply (crude oil) from the flame front for a short time by firing a charge from a cannot of a known type
