PURPOSE:To obtain the title compound useful as surfactant, lubricant, dispersant, emulsifying agent, etc., being in an oily state in spite of possession of alkyl chain of large number of carbons having a low melting point and dispersibility and excellent in stability, solubilization properties and freeze resistance. CONSTITUTION:A compound shown by the formula (R<1> to R<3> are alkyl, aryl or H with the proviso that at least one of R<1> to R<3> is 3, 7, 11, 15- tetramethylhexadecyl, 3, 7, 11-trimethyldecyl or 3, 7-dimethyloctyl) and a salt thereof sich as tri(3RS, 7R, 11R, 15-tetramethylhexadecyl) phosphate. For instance, the compound of the example is obtained by reacting phosphorous oxychloride with 3RS, 7R, 11R, 15-tetramethylhexadecanol in the presence of trimethylamine and N, N-dimethylaminopydine in dichloromethane.
