PURPOSE:To avoid the shift of time information due to Cherekov light generated by high velocity charged particle by using a block shape luminous material and a photomultipler or photodiode. CONSTITUTION:Instead of making the window of a photomultiplier 2 with glass, the window is made directly of block shape luminous material 1, or instad of putting a photomultiplier 2 behind the block shape luminous material 1, photodiode 3 is installed. Alternatively behind the thick enough block shape luminous material 1, a photomultiplier 2 with glass window is installed. Even in the case that high valocity charged particles pass through the detector, Cherenkov light is not radiated, or the shift of time information is not caused because the contribution by Cherenkov light is eliminated. Therefore, even in the case spacial density of charged particles is high, excellent detection of the various particles can be executed.
