To assess scratch behaviour of bodies, such as glass panes for motor vehicles, at least one scratch mark which extends over a substantially plane area is initially provided in one surface of the body (15) by means of a loadable diamond scratching element (24). After a specified period of time has expired, the ratio of the length of the "closed" scratch relative to the overall length of the scratch mark is determined so as to provide some measure of the scratch stability of the body. To impart the scratch or scratches, a scratching device (10) is used, which includes a carriage (17) movable by means of a stepping motor (31) along a horizontal guide track (18). A support beam (20) is arranged on a holder (19) which is mounted on the carriage (17), and is movable by means of a control drive (22) transversely to the horizontal guide track (18). A diamond scratching element (24) is mounted in a holder (23) at one end of the support beam (20) and by movement of the beam (20) and the carriage (17) can be caused to make one or several parallel scratches in the body (15). <IMAGE> |
