PURPOSE:To obtain the focus detection device which photographs only a subject with stable composition without using a focus block by properly setting the position (area) of a range finding point when ranges are found in plural areas in a photographic picture plane. CONSTITUTION:A detecting means 303 detects image information in plural areas in the rectangular photographic picture plane and focus detection is performed in the respective areas according to the image signal obtained from the detecting means. This focus detection device performs the focus detection in plural areas at the center part of the photographic picture plane 301a and nearby the trisection points of two diagonals. |
