PURPOSE:To obtain a high-strength magnesia sintered compact, excellent in mechanical properties with hardly any deterioration in strength especially at high temperatures and useful for melting high-purity and high-melting point metals, sintering electronic and electrically conductive ceramics such as PZT ceramics or beta-alumina ceramics and further melting superconducting ceramics such as Y-Ba-Cu-O-based ceramics. CONSTITUTION:A high-strength magnesia sintered compact is characterized as follows. The aforementioned sintered compact has a microstructure in which rounded pores having <=1mum average grain diameter are present in grain boundaries of magnesia grains having 1-4mum average grain diameter and the porosity is 2-6%. |
