PURPOSE:To make an electric vacuum cleaner move according to the intention of a person who is cleaning at the time of normal usage under avoiding obstacles easily by a method wherein sensors which protrude from the main body of an electric vacuum cleaner are provided at front parts on the side surfaces of the main body, and front and rear wheels are made to face the opposite direction to an obstacle when this sensor comes into contact with and senses the obstacle. CONSTITUTION:When an obstacle is located left forward of the main body while the title electric vacuum cleaner is in use, a sensing unit 6 on the left side of the main body comes into contact with the obstacle, and a sensor 3 turns backward of the main body with a left side sensor shaft 4 as its pivot, and then, a connecting rod 21 is pressed backward of the main body by a groove 19 with which the connecting rod 21 is engaged. By this motion, a rear wheel holding part 10 on the left side turns forward of the main body with the shaft 9 on the left side as its pivot. Since a connecting part 15 moves in the main body-lateral direction by turning of a connecting rod 13 at the same time, the connecting part 15 presses a caster 22 which normally does not receive regulation, and turns the caster 22 to direction-regulate. Thus, the obstacle is avoided. |
