PURPOSE:To obtain the title new compound useful as a raw material for ink, coating compound, adhesive, molding resin, etc., having low viscosity, slight smell and solubility in a wide range of resins. CONSTITUTION:A 1-methyl-3,4-epoxycyclohexylmethyl (meth)acrylate shown by formula I (R is H or methyl). The compound is obtained by epoxidizing a (meth)acrylate compound shown by formula II with an oxidizing agent (e.g. performic acid or cumyl hydroperoxide). The reaction is preferably carried out in a solvent such as benzene or acetone in the presence of a polymerization inhibitor such as hydroquinone while introducing molecular oxygen. When an organic peracid is used as the oxidizing agent, the crude epoxidized reactional solution after completion at the reaction is preferably neutralized with an aqueous solution of NaOH. |
