PURPOSE:To make possible both the jam detection of a print medium and the laminated amount detection of a discharge tray upon a connected signal by interrupting a light in a detector with the rear end of a detection lever, if the tip of the detection lever reaches a specified rotating position. CONSTITUTION:If printed sheets 7 are stacked higher than a specified level on a discharged sheet tray 3 and the sheet 7 passes through a sheet discharge roller 4, a detection lever 6 rotates with a pivot 6c as a center due to the sheet 7. This rotating action causes the rear end 6b of the detection lever to interrupt a light in a detector 5 and subsequently, a signal is sent from the detector 5. If a signal is connected by the detector 5 when a power supply for a printer is turned ON, the stacking of discharged sheets to a full capacity on the discharged tray or jam generation at a sheet discharge orifice are properly dealt with. Unless the detector generates a signal, a printing device 1 is set to a printing start state. If a printing command is received by the printing device 1, the sheet 7 is transported from a sheet feed cassette, and if a signal is sent from the detector 5, this state is interpreted as normal. |
