PURPOSE:To maintain toner near a blade and in a vessel good in fluidity and to prevent uneven coating of toner on a sleeve, by preliminarily rotating the developing roll of a developing device in a speed lower at the start of an electric power supply than during image formation. CONSTITUTION:During image formation, a photosensitive drum and the sleeve are rotated at an almost equal peripheral speed through gears 13, 14 by rotating a drum drive motor 12, and a latent image on the drum is developed. At that item, only a clutch 18 fixed to the shaft of the sleeve is engaged to transmit the drive force of the motor 12 to the sleeve shaft 3a. On the other hand, when the switch of the power supply is turned on after suspension of the image forming apparatus for a prescribed time length or more, a drive controller 20 actuates a low-speed drive motor 17 to rotate, with a clutch 19 engaged, and the clutch 18 on the sleeve shaft 3a disengaged. |
