PURPOSE: To enhance sensitivity and reliability by this polarized light detector. CONSTITUTION: A substrate 32 comprises a pair of overlapping optical couplers 38, 40 for coupling separately first and second polarized light components of light beams to first and second waveguide channels. The channels are arranged so that the longitudinal axes are nearly perpendicular to each other. First and second photodetectors 60, 70 are respectively arranged in the first and second waveguide channels, so that light strength of the first and second polarized light components is measured.
