In this process, the bottom product from the extractive distillation column is worked up in a subsequent stripper column in a manner such that the aromatics are removed from the stripper column as a head product and a part of the solvent having the high temperature necessary for complete aromatic stripping is removed from the stripper column as a bottom product, while the remainder of the solvent is removed at low temperature from the stripper column as a side stream. This side stream is reintroduced into the extractive distillation column 6 to 10 plates below the entry site of the solvent stream coming from the stripper column.
