To ensure gear tooth meshing over the whole gear facewidth, particularly of wide gears with hardened teeth, a gear shaft such as 8 is mounted in eccentrically adjustable bearings. In Fig. 2 the outer race of a roller bearing 12 is mounted in an eccentric bush 13 rotatable for shaft axis adjustment and circumferentially located by a pin 15 engaging one of radial bores provided, for adjustment, in the bush periphery. In Fig. 4 (not shown), a roller bearing outer race is itself eccentric and provided with adjustment and location bores in its periphery. As shown in Fig. 1, whilst bearings 2 are equally spaced from the facewidth centre x of the gear 1 and have equal total transverse adjustment movements, bearings 9, 10 are unequally spaced from the facewidth centre y of the gear 8 and have proportionately differing total transverse adjustment movements. |
