PURPOSE:To prevent adhesion of ink or paper dust to discharge ports of a recording head in a device in which a plurality of recording means-that make the recording by ink jetting on a material on which the recording is made are provided by a method wherein the recording means are provided so that each of said recording means can retreat independently. CONSTITUTION:A material 1 on which recording is made is set in a position for the start of the recording after being fed by a pair of conveying rollers to a pair of pulling rollers, and an image in a fixed width (H) is recorded thereon with a recording head 4 mounted on a carriage and driven on image signals. The recording head 4 is composed, for instance, of four recording heads, 4C, 4M, 4Y and 4B, each of which uses each of different inks. The recording head 4 is mounted so that each of the four heads can make forward and rearward movements independently to and from the carriage 6, being driven by each of solenoids 34 provided in each of head housings 32. Then each of the recording heads 4 is so controlled that it can retreat when unused, or in the case where the carriage is in return motion. |
