A pipe coupling for pipe lengths, particularly of plastics material, comprises a socket 2 dimensioned to slidably receive a pipe end 8. The socket mouth provides an annular recess comprising a groove 3 which is formed as a counterbore 16 extending into the socket mouth with an annular ring located in its open end. The ring has a feather edge which is an interference fit on said pipe end 8. At least one aperture 4 extends through the socket wall and opens into said groove. The arrangement is such that, after insertion of the pipe end, adhesive can be introduced under pressure via said aperture into said annular recess for sealing around the pipe end, said pressure also being effective to tighten the feather edge onto the pipe end to prevent leakage. Preferably, the adhesive is contained within a cartridge (10, Fig. 2, not shown) for an applicator gun (9) so that the adhesive is not normally open to atmosphere. <IMAGE> |
