PURPOSE:To increase contrast ratio and chroma and widen field of vision angle by specifying the twist angle of an STN type liquid crystal absorption axis angle of a polalizer, differential phase of a phase difference film, its extending direction and absorption axis of a photo detector. CONSTITUTION:A polarizer 4 is placed on one side of an STN type liquid crystal panel 2, and a first phase difference film RF1 and a second phase difference film RF2 are placed on the other side thereof in this order. A photo detector 5 is placed outside the second phase difference film RF2. The twist angle of the liquid crystal is set to 250 deg.+ or -5 deg. and the phase difference nd to 0.87+ or -0.05mum. The absorption axis angle of the polarizer 4 is set to 80 deg.+ or -5 deg. with the average value of the up and down rubbing direction of the liquid crystal as the reference direction. The phase difference nd of the first phase difference film RF1 is set to 0.31+ or -0.05mum and its extending direction to 43-525. The phase difference nd of the phase difference film RF2 is set to 0.46+ or -0.05mum and its extending direction to 6 deg.-18 deg.. The absorption axis of the photo detector 6 is set to -15 deg.-4 deg.. |
