During oxygen-blast refining of an iron bath in a converter, the total amount of oxygen passing at each instant into the converter, e.g. through the lance and including the oxygen introduced by additions such as ore and scrap iron, and the amount escaping at each instant in gaseous form combined with carbon and possibly as free gas are continuously measured to continuously calculate, e.g. by means of a predetermined formula, the amounts of oxygen fixed by the different bath elements, e.g. C, gaseous CO, and the Fe, Mn, Si and P, and then calculate at each instant the total amount of oxygen fixed by these elements, and, after slagging off the Si, deduce the total amount of oxygen fixed by the Fe, Mn and P, thereby permitting accurate adjustment of the oxidation rate and/or determining termination of refining.
|
