DEVICE FOR PRODUCING AND CIRCULATING A LIQUID ELECTROLYTE IN AN ACTIVATABLE ALKALINE CELL

A device according to the invention is placed on board a marine craft (1). It comprises an electrochemical unit (3) of Ag-Al or Ag-Li type, and a reservoir (5), which are separated by a partition (6). During storage, the reservoir (5) contains a pulverulent alkaline product (4). A looped circuit allows the liquid electrolyte to be circulated between the electrochemical unit (3) and the reservoir (5). This circuit comprises a circulating pump (9), a hydrogen separator (13) and a pipe (7) which permanently and freely communicates with the sea throughout circulation of the electrolyte. The reservoir and the electrochemical unit are separated by a partition (6) and are interconnected by two pipes (16, 22) which traverse this partition and which each comprise a tearable membrane (20, 23) which isolates the reservoir from the electrochemical unit during storage and which is torn when the liquid electrolyte begins to circulate. One application is the construction of electrical propulsion units for marine craft.
