A method of drying paper and cardboard, previously pre-dehydrated, on the surface of drying metal cylinders, characterized in that the paper web, pre-dehydrated to the dryness level of 35-40 percent and cooled to the temperature of 20-30 degrees C, is first dried in a non-contact manner at the temperature of 70-90 degrees C for 0.5-5 seconds and then it is dried on the surface of hot drying cylinders for 10-100 seconds until the end dryness of 95 percent is obtained.<IMAGE>
