A method of synthesis of /1-oxy-2-methylo-7-methoxy-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-2-phenantrilo/ acetic acid with the general formula 2, in the environment of liquid ammonia, by reduction of the substrate with sodium and water in the presence of co-solvent, and by termination of the reaction with addition of ammonium chloride solution, characterized in that the substrate is /1-oxy-2-methylo-7,9-dimethoxy-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-2-phenantrilo/ acetic acid with the general formula 1, the co-solvent is tetrahydrofuran, and the ratio of reagents is 1.5 mole of water and 1.2 mole sodium per 1 mole of substrate as above, where ammonia is distilled off the sodium, at concentration 1 part by weight of substrate to 100 parts by volume of ammonia, and where the reaction is terminated by the addition of the saturated solution of ammonium chloride in water.<IMAGE>
