PURPOSE: To measure base potential by a simple method by preparing a histogram of samples of a signal. CONSTITUTION: A detecting apparatus DR receiving and detecting nuclear radiation RN to output a detecting signal S is provided with a digital sampling unit CAN for outputting the detecting signal subjected to A/D conversion, a sample processor TS for determining the characteristics of detected nuclear radiation and a measuring unit MOB for measuring base potential incorporated in a unit located behind CAN to prepare the histogram. These digital samples are obtained by measuring the abscissa of the first peak in the histogram continuously at high speed. The abscissa of the first peak gives a value of the base potential and further the detecting signal is corrected by subtracting the value of the base potential measured before the sampling process with a subtracting unit SS.
