The invention relates to a process for the preparation of a smoking substitute composition containing nicotine in the form of an inclusion complex of nicotine and a cyclodextrin compound which comprises incorporating 0.1 to 10% (w/w) of nicotine in the form of a cyclodextrin complex, 0.05 to 3% of a lubricant and a residual part of lactose, cyclodextrin, sorbitol or mannitol.
