Wall and ceiling covering composition containing 10 to 12 % by weight of expanded polystyrene beads and 7 to 10 % by weight of exfoliated vermiculite in a binder consisting of an aqueous dispersion of at least one vinyl polymer, the said aqueous dispersion containing from 48 to 52 % of at least one polymer and being used in a proportion of 30 to 35 % by weight of the product, which additionally contains 20 to 30 % by weight of water and at least one additive chosen from the group made up of pigments, fireproofing agents, coalescence agents, fungicides and thickeners. The vinyl polymer used may be a homopolymer or a copolymer and more particularly a polyvinyl chloride, a vinyl acetate versatate, a styrene acrylic ester, a vinyl ethylene chloride or a styrene-butadiene polymer.
